Geneva--A Patek Philippe Ref. 5002 Sky Moon tourbillon, the most complicated watch ever produced by the brand, sold for $1.2 million at Antiquorum’s May 12 auction in Geneva.
Featuring two dials and 12 complications, the Sky Moon tourbillon rarely appears at auction and is made in a special-order pink gold case. It was sold with its original box, official chronometer certificate and certificate of origin.
Overall, the Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces auction resulted in two world auction records, both for specific Rolex models.
The total of the sale was $8.3 million, with 123 percent sold by value.
A Rolex Ref. 6263 Gold Daytona Paul Newman wristwatch (below) with a lemon dial and white graphics sold for a world auction record price of approximately $872,955, nearly three times its pre-sale estimate and the highest price ever paid for a Rolex Daytona at auction.
